Independence
The Luxembourg Association for Scientific Research is independent of any political, economic or religious beliefs. Its decisions are guided solely by respect for its social mission, the needs expressed by researchers and the respect of its founding principles and values.
Impartiality
The Luxembourg Association for Scientific Research judges the quality of projects submitted to it impartially and sponsors research work without any ethnic, political or religious considerations. It sets up procedures for the selection of research projects guaranteeing this impartiality. All research projects will be subject to the assessment of the members of the Scientific Council anonymously.
Excellence
The aim of the Luxembourg Association for Scientific Research is to participate actively in the development of cutting-edge Luxembourg scientific research, bringing about progress in all fields that give rise to research. Scientific excellence is based on objective and innovative selection criteria. Researchers from all backgrounds and qualified experts in their field are asked for the selection of projects to finance. This work will result in a flat fee to compensate the expert for the time spent reading research papers.
Selfless commitment
The Luxembourg Association for Scientific Research strives to eliminate any management of the conflict of interest. For example, the researchers in charge of project evaluation and selection will not be able to evaluate their own research.
Lux-SIR obeys procedures and controls that guarantee the quality of its management and allow its donors to be fully informed of the use of their donations.
- The control of an independent auditor;
- The sending of its audited accounts to all its donors and partners;
- Publication of its annual accounts on the website;
- The “traceability” of donations: donors have the right to express a direction of their donation towards a specific area of research.
In addition, each project selected or not will give rise to a detailed report justifying the jury’s decision. The names of the reviewers are specified on each report so that the candidate can improve his work in case of need and know the quality of the remarks concerning their work. If necessary, they can contact the reviewers. However, the Lux-SIR cannot under any circumstances force the reviewers to reply to the e-mails of the candidates.
